"After college, I told myself I wasn’t ever going to run again, I was burnt out from it. A couple of months later I was just jogging around for fun and my friend invited me to a Turkey Trot. Fast forward 6 years and I have qualified for the Olympic Trials. Running has had its ups and downs trying to adjust to being a father and to starting a new job as a full-time firefighter/EMT while trying to adjust to the stresses of the job but at the same time trying to run high mileage has had its challenges"

The youngest entry in Orlando is Adam Sjolund, 22 of Bonney Lake. Sjolund ran 2:17:02 at the 2022 California International Marathon at age 21 to qualify for Orlando. He is a 2023 graduate of the University of Nevada and is currently a PhD student at Northern Arizona University.

Matthew Welch, 29, of Bellingham will be competing in his second Olympic Trials. In 2020 he finished 134th (2:29:18). Originally from Duluth, MN, he is a Community Mental Health Case Manager in Bellingham. He qualified for Orlando running 2:17:17 at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon just four months ago. At the 2017 NCAA Championship Cross Country Championships, he finished 46th to help Portland University to a second-place team finish. In 2021 he biked 11,500 miles around the United States.
