Pacific Northwesterners Win Six Titles at USATF Masters Championships in Alabama

Results

The 2025 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded on Sunday (20-July) at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama. A total of 1,192 athletes from all 50 states competed in the four-day national championship. USATF Pacific Northwest was represented by 12 athletes who delivered outstanding performances throughout the meet. Pacific Northwest athletes brought home six national titles and made 12 total trips to the awards podium, earning medals for top-three finishes.

George Mathews (M80-84) dominated the throws, taking gold in the hammer throw (38.67m) and weight throw (14.61m), and bronze in the shot put (8.41m). 

Eric Woodyard (M45-49) earned a pair of silver medals in the 100m (11.62) and 200m (23.72) and backed them up with national-class age-graded scores of 90.04% and 89.84%, respectively. He also ran 11.70 in the 100m prelims (89.27%) and 24.75 in the 200m prelims (86.13%), making him one of the meet’s most consistent elite-level performers.

Dena Birade (W50-54) sprinted to gold in the 100m, running 13.54; an outstanding 87.76% age-graded score.

Jonathan Dreher (M40-44) captured gold in the 5000m with a stellar time of 16:22.22 (85.51% age-graded mark), and Colby Haase (M50-54) earned bronze in the 1500m (4:48.24) and placed fifth in the 800m — both with national-class scores over 81%.

Russell Jacquet-Acea (M70-74) showed remarkable versatility, winning gold in the pentathlon, silver in the 300m hurdles (53.41, 84.36%), and bronze in the 80m hurdles (14.39, 84.54%), and finishing fifth in the pole vault.

Age-Graded National Class Performances (80–89%)

Athletes achieving age-graded scores over 80% are considered national class performers. Pacific Northwesterns reached this mark 12 times in Huntsville, with Eric Woodyard's 90.04% in the 100m going one step further with 90%+ world-class performance.

The 2026 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships will be held July 23–26 in Geneva, Ohio.

The 2026 USATF Masters Indoor Championships are scheduled for February 19–22 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
