2021 USATF Pacific Northwest Youth Trail Running Series

OVERVIEW

Mountain Ultra Trail (MUT) Running is one of five disciplines recognized by USA Track & Field (USATF).  MUT running covers a wide range of distances and terrain where athletes test the limits of their endurance off roads and on mountain trails.  USATF hosts annual association, regional, and national championships, and the sport is growing at the high school and collegiate levels as athletes use race and training opportunities to increase participation in the sport.  The area served by USATF Pacific Northwest has an abundance of urban trails as well as easy access to some of the greatest trails and mountain running locations in the country and a very active trail running community.  We have partnered with NW Trails, a local race management company, to establish the inaugural USATF Pacific Northwest Youth Trail Race Series and Team Trail Racing Championships.

SERIES SCORING

Individuals

Points: Points will be awarded based on finishing place in the overall race results (male and female placements are scored separately).  The 1st place woman and 1st place man in each event score 100 points, 2nd place scores 95, 3rd scores 92, 4th scores 90, 5th 89 and so on. Places 64th and lower score 30 points.  The total points from each runner's best four (4) performances determine overall series standings.  More details on the scoring can be found at the bottom of this page.

Age Divisions: There will be two age divisions - Youth (12 & under yrs.) and Junior (13-18 yrs.).  Ages are based on the athlete's age on December 31, 2021.

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Summer Eddy race on August 3 will serve as the USATF Pacific Northwest Youth Trail Running Team Championships.  Teams of 3 to 5 runners may register as a scoring team; the top three (3) competitors from each team will be scored (based on the series points earned) and the team with the highest point total wins.

There will be two age divisions - Youth (12 & under yrs.) and Junior (13-18 yrs.). Ages are based on the athlete's age on December 31, 2021
