Pacific Northwest Athletes Win Eleven Titles at USATF Masters Outdoor Championships
Results
The
2024 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships
concluded on Sunday (21-July) in Sacramento, CA. 1379 athletes from all fifty states participated in the championships held at American River College.
Twenty-four (24) members of USATF Pacific Northwest competed in the four-day competition with ten athletes winning national titles. The local athletes visited the awards podium 35 times for finishing in the top-three in their events.
Earning two national titles was
Tamar Brown El
who won the 400m (1:12.99) and High Jump (1.25m / 4-01¼) in the women's 25-29 division. She also earned a silver medal finishing second in the 200m (31.01).
Daphne Scott
earned six visits to the awards podium as she won the women's 60-64 Pole Vault, finished second in the 100m, 300m Hurdles, and Pentathlon and picked up third place finishes in the 200m and 80m Hurdles.
Russell Jacquet-Acea
earned three trips to the awards podium as he won the men's 60-64 Pentathlon and finished second in the 80m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles.
Carol Sexton
ran to gold and silver as she won the women's 65-69 10,000m (49:14.66) and finished second in the 5000m (23:16.98).
Amanda Shearer-Hannah
(W55),
Orville McDonald
(M45),
Quincy Maggit
(M45), and
Donald Galvanin
(M70) all earned a national title and also earned a bronze medal for a third place finish. Shearer-Hannah won the 200m and finished third in the 100. McDonald's victory came in the 400m Hurdles and his bronze medal was earned in the 110m Hurdles. Maggit claimed the the national title in the Long Jump and the bronze medal in the 100m. Galvanin won the Javelin Throw and was third in the Shot Put.
Carla Hoppie
won the women's 65-69 Pole Vault national title with a clearance of 2.40m (7-10½).
Richard Waters
ran to victory in the M40 10,000m stopping the clock at 36:04.15.
Joshua Gray
(M35) and
George Mathews
(M80) each earned two silver medals for their second place finishes. Gray's runner-up finishes came in the Triple Jump and Javeline Throw. Mathews's finished second in the Hammer Throw and Weight Throw.
Earning a silver and bronze medal was
William Rehder
. Rehder finished second in the men's 65-69 10 km Race Walk and third in the 5000m Race Walk.
Others winning silver medals were
Jonathan Dreher
(M40 1500m),
Zacharry Bays
(M45),
Doug Schurman
(M55 Hammer Throw), and
Michael Waller
(M65 200m).
