Corman wins, Elliott second at USA U20 Championships in Florida

(24-Jun) Over the weekend nine Pacific Northwest athletes competed in the
USA U20 Championships
in Miramar, Florida.
The top two finishers in each event earned coveted spots on Team USA for next month's Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica. Heading to Costa Rica from the Pacific Northwest association are
Samantha Corman
(Bellevue, WA / Georgetown University) and
Cass Elliott
(Seattle / University of Washington).
Corman, a four-time WIAA 4A state champion while at Issaquah High School, won the 1500m. Her time was of 4:29.81 edged out Rachel Hickey of Illinois St. who ran 4:30.93.
In the 400m hurdles Elliott came in as the #2 seed behind James Smith from the University of Arizona and held his form as he placed second to Smith running 51.30. Smith stopped the clock at 50.29. Elliott was .58 seconds clear of third place finisher Ryan Fields (Cal Poly Pomona).
Makayla Kelby
(Seattle / Univ. of Washington) finished fourth in the Discus (50.66m / 166-02) and seventh in the Shot Put (14.37m / 47-01¾).
Picking up fifth place finishes were
Olivia Markezich
(Woodinville, WA) in the 3000m Steeplechase running 11:01.78 and
Zach Annanie
(Seattle / Univ. of Washington) in the Javelin. Annanie's throw of 62.10m (203-09) was a career best for the Husky freshman.
