Club Northwest W60 team and Sheeran win, Maggard third at club championships in Pennsylvania

Last Saturday (14-Dec) 102 athletes (and 13 teams) from the Pacific Northwest association competed against the top open and masters athletes at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Bethlehem, PA. The event was held on the campus of Lehigh University.
 
A record, 2,002 athletes competed in the championships in five races (Open Women, Open Men, Masters Women, Masters Men 40+, and Masters Men 60+).
 
The highlights of day for the Pacific Northwest athletes was the team title won by the Club Northwest 60+ women's team, the individual national title won by Joe Sheeran (Club Northwest) in the masters men's 60-64 division, and the third place finish in the open men's race by Dillon Maggard.

The Club Northwest masters women's 60+ team scored an impressive 11 points to win the national title. Kathi Sleavin, Regina Joyce, and Kelly Kruell were the scoring members for the team. The Atlanta Track Club (New England) finished second with 20 points. 
 
Sheeran, 62, won the M60+ 8 km race over a wet and muddy course in 28:42. Second place was Mark Reeder of Massachusetts 52 seconds back. Sheeran scored 92.44% on the age-graded tables; the highest score turned in by the 961 masters athletes that competed.
 
In the open men's race, Maggard (unattached / Brooks) finished third running 30:17 over the 10 km course. Tinman Elite (Colorado) teammates Morgan Pearson and Aaron Templeton finished first and second, respectively. Pearson's time was 29:54 with Templeton 10 seconds ahead of Maggard.

  • Open Women - Claire Devoe (18th, Club Northwest) and Ellie Clawson (59th, Club Northwest) finishing in the top 60
  • Open Men - Maggard and Robert Baraldi (58th, Club Northwest) finishing in the top 60
  • Masters Women - Janet McDevitt (2nd place W45-49, Club Northwest); results & photos (4th place W50-54); results & photos (4th place W60-64)
  • Masters Men - Emmet Hogan (5th place M50-54); Greg Beyerlein (5th place M65-69)
 
TEAMS
  • Open Women's Team - Club Northwest (12th place out of 48 teams)
  • Open Men's Team - Club Northwest (17th place out of 78 teams)
  • Masters Women's Team - Club Northwest 50+ (4th place)
  • Masters Men's Team - Club Northwest 50+ (2nd place); Eastside Runners 70+ (4th place)
