Heath fifth, Elliott sixth at SimplyHealth Great Stirling XCountry in Scotland

1/13/2019

(13-Jan) Garrett Heath (Seattle) and David Elliott (Bellingham) finished fifth and sixth, respectively to help lead Team USA to the team win yesterday at the 2019 SimplyHealth Great Stirling XCountry International Challenge in Sterling, Scotland.

The international competition featured athletes from Team USA, Great Britain and Team Europe. The top 4 finishers for each team contributed to the final team scores.

With 800m to go Team USA teammates Hillary Bor of Team USA and Leonard Korir led the field and seemed to have the top spots locked up but at that point they momentarily went off course.  After backtracking they joined the trailing pack which included Heath and Elliott.  Heath actually took the lead for a few hundred meters but Bor, Korir and Team Europe teammates Napoleon Solomon and Adel Mechaal were able to drive to the finish all finishing within 1 second of each other - Bor (1st, 23:48), Solomon (2nd - 23:48), Mechaal (3rd, 23:49) and Korir (4th, 23:49).  Heath finished fifth (23:56) and Elliott sixth (24:00) as they were the third and fourth place scorers for Team USA.

Team USA won the team competition with 16 points; defeating Team Europe (20 pts.) and Great Britain (44 pts.).
