Burnett, Windle, Mackey lead locals at USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque

entries & results

The 2018 USATF Indoor Championships start today in Albuquerque, with the combined events, and will conclude on Sunday.  Athletes finishing in the top two in most events will be eligible to represent Team USA at next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, U.K.
A total of 15 athletes from USATF Pacific Northwest are entered in 17 events.
Katie Burnett (Bellevue, Wash.) is the #1 seed in the women’s 3000m race walk. She is coming off winning the 50 km national title last month in California.  Entered with #2 seeds are 2017 Team USA member Drew Windle (Seattle, WA / Brooks) in the 800m and 2016 Olympian Andrea Geubelle (University Place, Wash.) in the women’s triple jump.

Windle had a break out year in 2017 as he lowered he career best by over 1 second to 1:44.63 and finished 14th at the IAAF World Championships in London. At the Millrose Games two weeks ago he ran 1:45.53; the #3 U.S. all-time performance indoors.
Katherine Mackey (Seattle, WA / Brooks) is entered in both the 1500m and 3000m.  The 3000m looks to be one of the best events of the weekend led by 2017 world champion Emma Coburn. Mackey's 8:43.15  (run two weeks ago in New York) is the #4 entry seed but is so good that it ranks #12 all-time for U.S. women indoors.
